Beavers Set For Three-Day Tournament

CORVALLIS, Ore. – After a one-day break, the Oregon State men's golf team returns to action Thursday through Saturday at The Goodwin in San Francisco, Calif.

FIELD (25): Oregon State, Abeline Christian, Arizona State, BYU, California, Cal Poly, Colorado, Minnesota, Nevada, Northern Colorado, Northwestern, Oklahoma, Oregon, San Francisco, San Jose State, SMU, Sonoma State, Stanford, St. Mary's, UC Davis, USC, UNLV, Utah, Washington and Wyoming.

COURSE: The tournament will be held at the par-71, 7,143-yard TPC Harding Park.

BEAVERS' LINEUP: Oregon State will go with a lineup of junior Trevor Yu, sophomores Kyosuke Hara and Shawn Lu, and freshmen Keaton Gudz and Spencer Tibbits.

FORMAT: Three-day, 54-hole tournament with 18 holes each day. The top-four individuals from each five-member team with the lowest scores for each 18-hole round constitute the scoring members for that given round.

TEE TIMES: There will be a double shotgun each round, starting with the morning wave on the first and 10th tees at 7:30 a.m. and the afternoon group at 12:20 p.m. The Beavers will start at 7:30 a.m. on Thursday and be paired with San Jose State and SMU.

LAST TIME OUT: Spencer Tibbits and Shawn Lu both recorded a career-best finish to lead the Beavers to a tie for third place at the Duck Invitational this past Tuesday.

Tibbits finished in fourth place with a steady 2-under 71-69-71--211. He had eight birdies over the three rounds and nothing worse than a bogey. His previous best finish was sixth place at the Alister MacKenzie Invitational this past fall.

Lu finished in a tie for fifth place with a 1-uner 75-67-70--212 to better the tie for 10th he posted as a freshman at the El Macero Classic. He dropped in a team-best 11 birdies, tied for the third most in the 88-player field.

The Beavers had their best finish of the season, a tie for third place, with a 17-over 298-282-289--869 at the par-71, 7,020-yard Eugene Country Club.

Liberty and Oregon shared the team title with a 13-over 865 and Santa Clara tied Oregon State for third with a 17-over 869. Norman Xiong of Oregon claimed medalist honors with an 11-under 202.

Kyosuke Hara improved his score by two strokes each round, finishing with a 9-over 76-74-72--222 for a tie for 31st place.

Trevor Yu finished in 68th place with an 18-over 83-72-76--231 and Keaton Gudz shot a 21-over 76-75-83--234 for a tie for 74th.
Â
Alec Berrey, a freshman from Corvallis, Ore., competed as an individual and finished in a tie for 77th with a 23-over 84-75-77--236.
