Dani Dessaints Named as AAI Award Finalist
March 27, 2018 | Women's Gymnastics
CORVALLIS, Ore. – Oregon State senior Dani Dessaints has been named as a finalist for the AAI Award, announced by American Athletic, Inc.
Â
The AAI Award annually recognizes the most outstanding senior female gymnast in the nation and the winner is determined by a vote of the sports' head coaches.
Â
The field, which has been reduced to 10 finalists, also includes Kennedy Baker and Alex McMurtry from Florida, Brianna Brown from Michigan, Cami Drouin-Allaire from George Washington, Myia Hambrick from LSU, AJ Jackson from Oklahoma, Christine Peng-Peng Lee from UCLA, Elizabeth Price from Stanford and Kiana Winston from Alabama.
Â
All 10 finalists will be recognized and the winner will be announced at the NCAA Women's Gymnastics Championships banquet in April.
Â
A sociology major with an emphasis in crime and justice from Las Vegas, Nev., Dessaints is a team captain for the Beavers. While working through injuries, Dessaints has helped lead a squad that needed to replace 15 routines from 2017 to a season that has seen OSU ranked as high as No. 8 in the nation. The 2017 All-American has 'hit' all 13 of her routines this season. In February, Dessaints returned to the Beavers' uneven bars lineup for the first time since suffering a season-ending injury early 2016 and has since settled in to the anchor position. Despite being limited to the bars since midseason, Dessaints has accumulated four event titles as a season and has 14 career wins.
Â
Dessaints will lead the Beavers next weekend when they travel to the NCAA Raleigh Regional Championships hosted by NC State, April 7 at 1 p.m. PT.
