Beavers to Make Desert Trip for Pac-12’s

THE MEET
The 11th-ranked Oregon State gymnastics team makes its first trip to the desert in 2018 to compete at the Pac-12 Championships hosted by Arizona. The Beavers will be the fifth-seeded team and will compete in the afternoon session of the championships beginning at 1 p.m.

OSU AT PAC-12 CHAMPIONSHIPS
Here are some quick hitters about Oregon State's history in the Pac-12 Championships:
• Oregon State is one of only four schools - along with UCLA, Stanford and Utah - to have won the Pac-10/12 Championships in the 31-year history of the event.
• The Beavers are seeking their seventh conference title and third since 2010.
• OSU has a 4-0 record against their direct competition this year defeating Stanford, Arizona State and Arizona in Corvallis and topped ASU again last week at Sacramento State.
• Twenty-four OSU gymnasts have combined to win 44 individual conference titles over the course of 31 years.
• Senior Dani Dessaints tied for the Pac-12 vault title in 2017 scoring a career-best 9.950.
OREGON STATE NOTES
• The Beavers have yet to count a fall in 2018 ... OSU counted just two missed routines in 2017, with both coming in a win at Seattle Pacific.
• The Beavers returned just nine out of 24 routines from the 2017 NCAA Championships lineup ... OSU has received significant contributions from a group of five sophomores - Halli Briscoe, Destinee Davis, Lena Greene, Maela Lazaro and Alyssa Minyard - who have combined to hit 48 of 50 routines after combining to provide only one routine as freshmen in 2017. The quintet has combined for 14 event titles in 2018.
• Oregon State has 'hit' 229 out of 240 (95.4%) routines in 2018 ... in comparison, the Beavers 'hit' 300 out of 312 (96.2%) routines last year.
• The Beavers have hit 24-for-24 only twice this season. The first came in their fourth meet of the season, at home against Arizona State; the second was last week at Sacramento State.
• Through 10 meets, OSU's youthful squad, which includes 13 out of 19 underclassmen, the production breakdown looks like this: Sophomores have performed 94 of 240 routines in 2018 (39.2%), juniors have produced 79 of 240 (32.9%), freshmen 40 of 240 (16.7%) and seniors 27 of 240 (11.3%).
• Of particular note is that OSU sophomores only performed 40 routines (out of 312) for the Beavers as freshmen last year.
• Seven out of OSU's 12 opponents on the 2018 schedule are currently ranked in the Top 36; No. 3 UCLA, No. 4 Utah, No. 8 Washington, No. 10 California, No. 17 Arizona State, No. 20 BYU and No. 30 Stanford.
• Oregon State went an undefeated 5-0 at Gill Coliseum in 2018 including four wins over Top 25 teams - No. 23 Stanford, No. 12 Arizona State, No. 24 Arizona and No. 21 BYU.
• Fifteen of the Beavers' 19 gymnasts earned a GPA of 3.0 or higher during fall term ... as a team, the Beavers earned a 3.4778 GPA in the fall.
QUICKLY
• Oregon State opened the season with back-to-back road meets for the second year in a row. OSU kicked off the season with a win at Pittsburgh before traveling to face Utah, where the Beavers upped their previous score by 1.5 points.
• The Beavers are coming off a 19-win season the ended with an 11th-place finish at NCAA Championships
• Oregon State returns one All-American, Dani Dessaints, who was an NACGC/W Regular Season All-American on the vault in 2017.
• Dessaints tied for the Pac-12 title on the vault (9.95) in 2017.
• In 2017, OSU advanced to the postseason for the 43rd straight year ... the last time the Beavers failed to reach the postseason was 1974, when they were still competing in the AIAW.
• OSU finished second at the 2017 NCAA Champaign Regional earning a berth at NCAA Championships. The Beavers finished 11th at the championships in St. Louis.
LAST WEEK AT SACRAMENTO STATE
Oregon State registered its highest away score of the season scoring 196.850 to win a quad meet at Sacramento State with Arizona State and UC Davis.
• The Beavers hit all 24 routines for just the second time this season..
• McKenna Singley tied her career-best and won the all-around (39.400) and tied for top honors on the vault (9.875).
• Other event winners included vault (Mary Jacobsen - 9.875), bars (Jacobsen - 9.900) and floor (Kaitlyn Yanish - 9.925).
• OSU tallied scores of 49.000 or better on all four events for the eighth time this season and fifth meet in a row.
SEEKING PERFECTION
OSU has seven gymnasts that have 'hit' all of their routines in 2018 including: Sabrina Gill (33-33), Shireen Khamedoost (15-15), Dani Dessaints (12-12), Isis Lowery (12-12), Maela Lazaro (8-8), Lena Greene (6-6) and Halli Briscoe (3-3).
LOADING UP FOR 2019
In November, three gymnasts signed the National Letters of Intent to join the Oregon State gymnastics program for the 2018-19 academic year. Leah Bivrell (Louisville, Colo.), Jade Carey (Phoenix, Ariz.) and Madi Dagen (Pleasanton, Calif.) are scheduled to enroll at Oregon State this coming summer ... Carey earned a pair of silver medals for Team USA at the 2017 World Championships ... Dagen's sister, Lacy, transferred from Florida to Oregon State during the offseason.

The top two finishers at each regional will advance to the NCAA Championships at the Chaifetz Arena in St. Louis, Mo.
