Dawson Sets School Record on Opening Day of L&C Spring Break Open
March 16, 2018 | Women's Track & Field
PORTLAND – Destiny Dawson's record-setting performance on Friday highlighted day one for the Oregon State track and field team at the 2018 Lewis & Clark Spring Break Open held at Lewis & Clark College and Clackamas Community College.
Competing in her first meet in an Oregon State uniform, Dawson set the school record in the javelin with a heave of 155-feet 6.5-inches taking first place in the event. The Beavers had a strong showing overall in javelin placing five in the top ten; Delaney Hall (2nd), Kindel Bailey (4th), Amber Peschka (7th), McKenzie Allison (9th).
Oregon State's other all-time top ten marks came in the hammer throw, which saw Lindsay McShane come within an inch of breaking the school record. McShane's throw of 173-feet 3.5-inches was good enough for a second place finish. Other all-time marks came from Jessica Molina, 168-0.5, and Sydney Guthrie-Baker, 160-2.
Amy Hilger took the crown in the high jump with a 5-foot 2.5-inch clear.
The Beavers continue action at the L&C Spring Break Open on Saturday morning, beginning at 10 a.m. with the discus.
