Beavers Take Second at L&C Spring Break Open
March 17, 2018 | Women's Track & Field
PORTLAND – The Oregon State University track and field team finished in second place with a small travel party at the 2018 Lewis & Clark Spring Break Open held by Lewis & Clark College and Clackamas Community College in Portland.
"With an abbreviated squad, I was impressed by our poise and competitiveness," began head coach Louie Quintana. "Our throwers were fantastic; all of them are in a heavy lifting cycle and they set personal records and school records."
On Friday, in the hammer and javelin the Beavers recorded five all-time marks and a school record. Destiny Dawson set the school record, while Delaney Hall took second right behind Dawson in the event and in the record books.
"I was happy to see Destiny [Dawson} and Delaney [Hall] get first and second in the javelin," said Quintana. "We know the Pac-12 is competitive in all events, but we are knocking on the door all over the place."
Another highlight for the Beavers was Dakota Steen in the 400-meter hurdles. "Dakota was great running a 62 (1:02.46) and winning by a lot," said Quintana. "If she continues to race with that kind of confidence, then she'll break the minute mark."
Jessica Molina placed threw the second-best shot put in OSU history, placing second with a throw of 45-feet 4.5-inches. She was bested by Keely McLaughlin (45-8) who was competing unattached.
"It was an exciting opener. The group is healthy and happy and hungry to continue with the season," said Quintana.
