Beavers Down No. 16 California
March 16, 2018 | Softball
CORVALLIS – The No. 25 Oregon State softball team unleashed a vicious offensive attack in a 10-5 victory over the No. 16 California Golden Bears Friday in the Pac-12 Conference opener for both teams. The three-game series continues Saturday and Sunday at Noon with free admission at the OSU Softball Complex. Both games will also air on the Pac-12 Networks.
The Beavers (18-9, 1-0 in the Pac-12) won for the sixth time in the last seven games while Cal's (23-4) five-game win streak was snapped.
OSU scored in every inning, including three runs in the second and sixth frames. Designated player Hope Brandner belted a three-run home run, her sixth of the year, in the bottom of the sixth to conclude the Beavers' scoring.
Earlier in the game right fielder Michelle Sass sent her first homer of the year deep to left center field.
"It's a big win and gives us confidence for the rest of the weekend," OSU head coach Laura Berg said. "We played a lot of top 25 teams in the preseason and I think that really helped us heading in the Pac-12 schedule.
The Beavers pounded out 13 hits. Shortstop McKenna Arriola joined Brandner with three RBI.
