Oregon State sends off Noemie Midrez and Emma Osowski in final home meet of 2017-18
CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Oregon State University swimming program took on Utah in the regular season finale at Osborn Aquatic Center on Saturday, honoring to two seniors and an alumni to wrap up the 2017-18 campaign.
Utah took the dual at 143-93.
Emma Osowski (Valencia, Calif.) and Noemie Midrez (Verviers, Liège, Belgium) were honored before the meet as the duo spent the last four years in the Orange and Black. Oregon State also honored alumni Marcia Brown, née Matthews, who was a diver for the Beavers from 1979-82.
"I thought we looked good," said head coach Jennifer Buffin. "It's always good to be back in our home pool and in front of our fans cheering us on. I think it elevated the level of competition to hear them cheering, especially at the end in the 400 free relay."
Junior Arianna Letrari (Bolzano, Italy) posted the first event win of the day as she clocked a 2:02.56 in the 200 fly for the top spot, besting Utah by less than a half-second. Letrari added a top time of 57.12 in the 100 fly for her second event win of the day and anchored the final leg of the 400 free relay that took second in scoring at 3:34.96.
"Arianna had a great split in the 400 free relay," added Buffin. "She showed her experience in racing and knowing exactly what she needs to do to get back into the race."
Sophomore Felicia Anderson (Portland, Ore.) tallied a win in the 200 back at 2:03.26, a quarter-second faster that the second-place finisher, and was edged out in the 100 back as her time of 56:04 put her in second behind Sarah Lott from Utah at 55.77.
Freshman Fernanda Rodriguez (Portland, Ore.) narrowly missed out on the top spot on the podium in the 100 breast as her time of 1:06.86 was two seconds shy of the leader, putting her in second place.
Midrez added a second-place scoring finish in the 100 free at 54.80, while Osowski went 2-3 with freshman Riley Neal (Hillsboro, Ore.) in scoring in the 500 free. Osowski took third at 5:26.10, while Neal finished second at 5:11.96.
Oregon State will take the next few weeks off before returning to the pool in the Pac-12 Championships starting on February 21. Tickets are on sale and the link can be found on the Oregon State swimming schedule page on OSUBeavers.com.
