Thompson Jr. Scores 24 In Loss At Cal

BERKELEY, Calif. – Stephen Thompson Jr. scored 24 points in a 74-70 loss to California on Saturday night at Haas Pavilion.
Thompson Jr. went 9-for-13 from the field, including 3-for-5 from beyond the arc, and scored 17 of his game-high 24 points in the second half. It's the seventh time this season, and the 15th time in his career he has scored 20-plus points.
Tres Tinkle scored 19 points and went 10-for-10 from the free throw line, Drew Eubanks chipped in 13 points and eight rebounds, and Ethan Thompson added 10 points and six assists.
The Beavers (11-11, 3-7 Pac-12) started the game on fire, jumping out to a 16-6 lead at the 13:38 mark of the first half. California (8-16, 2-9) used a 14-0 run that helped them take a 36-28 lead into the locker room at halftime.
After falling behind 41-30, Oregon State chipped away and eventually took a 57-56 lead on a tip in by Seth Berger with 6:47 to play. Two free throws by Tinkle tied it at 59, but the Golden Bears answered with two free throws and held the lead for good down the stretch.
California went 29-for-39 from the free throw line, including 17-for-21 in the second half.
Darius McNeill led the Golden Bears with 16 points, while Marcus Lee and Kingsley Okoroh each scored 14 and Justice Sueing added 11.
