Oregon State Ready for Regular Season Home Finales

CORVALLIS, Ore. –Oregon State wrestling welcomes a pair to Gill Coliseum this week, with the Beavers opening up against Cal Poly on Saturday, Feb. 3 at 7:30 p.m. in a Pacific-12 Conference matchup. On Monday, Oregon State honors its senior class in the final home dual of the season against Fresno State at 7 p.m.

The Beavers enter this week at 3-5 in dual competition, having trounced Northern Colorado in its most recent outing, 34-10. The Beavs won eight of the 10 bouts, including seven bonus point victories.
Cal Poly (0-6, 0-2 Pac-12) have struggles this season, failing to notch a win. The Mustangs suffered a Pac-12 loss at CSU Bakersfield, 28-15. Cal Poly has two wrestlers individually ranked by the NCAA Coaches' Panel; 141-pounder Colton Schilling (No. 31), 197-pounder Tom Lane (No. 23).
Saturday night's match will be the 55th time the two programs have met in dual competition. Oregon State holds a commanding lead in the series, 41-11-2. Last season, the Beavers got the best of the Mustangs in Corvallis, 25-10.
Following a short turnaround, Oregon State welcomes a newly revived Fresno State program to Gill Coliseum led by former Beavers associate head coach Troy Steiner. Back in action for the first time since 2005, the Bulldogs make their return to Corvallis with a 4-12 record, but first battle Stanford in a Pac-12 matchup on Saturday.
In their most recent outing, Fresno State dropped a 40-6 contest to Wyoming. The Bulldogs have two wrestlers ranked by the NCAA Coaches' Panel; 149-pounder Khristian Olivas (No. 22), and heavyweight AJ Nevills (No. 28).
Ranked Beavers
The Beavers continue to be represented in the individual rankings by a number of national media outlets. Redshirt junior 125-pounder Ronnie Bresser sits as high as No. 7 by Amateur Wrestling News, a No. 9ranking by TheOpenMat, No. 10 by WIN Magazine, and No. 12 by InterMat. Bresser currently ranks 41st all-time in Oregon State history with 80 career wins, 32nd all-time with 21 pins, and 34th all-time for career win percentage (.800).
197-pounder Corey Griego comes in at No. 15 by InterMat, a No. 18 placing by Amateur Wrestling News, and No. 20 by TheOpenMat. Griego was the 2017 Pac-12 champion at 197-pounds and started this year off with a win at the Navy Classic.
Amarveer Dhesi has looked dominant at heavyweight this season. Dhesi is ranked No. 8 by InterMat, a pair of No. 10 rankings by TheOpenMat and WIN Magazine, and No. 11 by Amateur Wrestling News. The redshirt senior is 5-0 in duals this season, and took first place at the Reno Tournament of Champions in December.
