Oregon State Falls to Pac-12 Foe Arizona State

TEMPE, Ariz. – Oregon State wrestling dropped its first Pac-12 dual of the conference season to No. 9 Arizona State on Saturday afternoon, 27-15.
It was a tough draw to start the day as freshman 174-pounder Myles Terry drew the No. 1-ranked, and undefeated, Anthony Valencia. Valencia took the match with a fall giving the Sun Devils a 6-0 lead.
Making his season debut for the Beavers at 184 pounds, redshirt sophomore Collbran Meeker dropped a major decision to Kordell Norfleet (ASU). Oregon State now trailed 10-0.
Oregon State finally got on the board at 197 pounds with 16th-ranked Corey Griego. The Apple Valley, Calif. native got a takedown just nine seconds in, and won by pin in 4:34 over Austyn Harris, his fifth fall of the season.
Heavyweight Amar Dhesi kept the train rolling with an upset over 4th-ranked Tanner Hall. Dhesi started with three first period takedowns on his way to a 9-5 decision. Dhesi's win brought the match score to 10-9 in favor of the Sun Devils.
125-pounder Ronnie Bresser trailed by one heading into the third period. Bresser elected for a neutral start, and took the lead on a takedown. A scramble at the end by Arizona State's No. 11-ranked Ryan Millhof gave the Sun Devils back points and a 9-4 decision.
Arizona State pushed its lead to 13-9 at the halfway intermission.
Starting at 133 pounds out of the intermission, Devan Turner was pitted against 13th-ranked Ali Nasar. Turner fell behind early and couldn't recover losing a 5-2 decision.
Jack Hathaway picked up a sudden victory decision over Cory Crooks, 3-1. The redshirt senior lead 1-0 as time was winding down in the third period, but a second stall call awarded Crooks the tying point. Hathaway finished a single-leg takedown after an extended scramble securing the win.
The Beavers trailed 16-12 with three bouts remaining. Freshman 157-pounder Hunter Willits was the only one to walk away victorious. Willits ended his four-match loss streak with an 8-1 decision over Oliver Pierce.
No. 9 Arizona State won by a final score of 27-15.
