Tinkle Scores Game-High 21 In Loss To USC

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Tres Tinkle scored 21 points and Stephen Thompson Jr. added 16 in a 74-67 loss to USC on Saturday night at Gill Coliseum.

The Beavers (11-8, 3-4 Pac-12) opened the second half on a 12-2 run to take a 45-37 lead with 13:20 to play. USC cut the deficit to 49-47 before Thompson Jr. hit a jumper and Ethan Thompson drilled a 3-pointer to make it 54-47 Beavers with 8:06 on the clock.

The Trojans (15-6, 6-2) countered with an 18-0 run that included three 3-pointers by Jordan Usher and five free throws.

Oregon State chipped away, eventually cutting the 65-54 deficit to six points on four occasions, but were unable to get any closer.

Tinkle reached the 20-point mark for the seventh time this season and 14th time in his career. He went 5-for-5 from the free throw line and has now hit 19 in a row.

Thompson Jr. scored 13 of his 16 points in the second half. He also tied a career high with five steals.

Ethan Thompson and Alfred Hollins scored eight points apiece, Seth Berger dished out a career-high six assists and Gligorije Rakocevic went 6-for-6 from the free throw line for his six points.

Zach Reichle played well off the bench, recording career highs with seven rebounds and two assists in 14 minutes.

Elijah Stewart led the Trojans with 18 points, while Usher finished with 14 and Chimezie Metu and Jordan McLaughlin added 12 each.

Oregon State outscored USC 32-20 in the paint and outrebounded the Trojans 37-28.

The Beavers return to action against Oregon at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 27 in Eugene in the 350th edition of the Civil War.
