OSU Swimming Heads to Utah Friday
September 29, 2016 | Women's Swimming
CORVALLIS, Ore. — The Oregon State swimming team opens its 2016-17 season this Friday at the University of Utah with a tri-meet against Utah and BYU starting at 4:30 p.m.
Â
"This weekend's meet is the first opportunity as a team to establish how we will approach meets this season," head swimming coach Jennifer Buffin said. "As a program we have been working towards focusing on establishing a competitive environment in practice. This team is in a great place heading into this weekend's meet, these women have been working hard to better themselves and their teammates every practice. I am excited to see how this work translates into their racing."
Â
The Beavers started their season last Saturday with the Orange and Black intrasquad scrimmage, with team Orange taking the title.
Â
It was a tight battle after the Black team came back in the last individual event with the top-two finishers in the 200 IM by seniors Czsarina Isleta and Chelsea Chan. The 400-free relay was the deciding factor for the champion. It was a tight race between the two teams, with team Orange out touching the Black by only .4 seconds for the win.
Â
Other performances from last week include, freshman Felicia Anderson, senior, Czsarina Isleta and junior, Noemie Midrez who led the black team with two individual titles, while the Orange team was led by senior Andrea Young and junior Corinne Shigeta both leading with a pair of titles.
Â
Utah competed against BYU last week in a non-scoring relay, winning 11 of the 15 swimming events. The last time OSU and Utah met was on Jan. 6, of last season where the Utes won, 143-116 after winning nine events during the meet. The last time the Beavers and the Cougars met was back in the 2013 season, as BYU recorded a 137-95 win.
Â
"Utah and BYU will be ready to race Friday and as a team we have a great opportunity to put up good in-season times and be competitive with both programs," concluded Buffin.
