September 27, 2016 | Wrestling
CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Oregon State wrestling team will host national power Michigan of the Big Ten Conference and Pacific-12 Conference rivals Arizona State and Stanford as part of a challenging 2016-17 season.
The Beavers host the Wolverines on Nov. 20 in their home opener, a noon match that will be televised by Pac-12 Networks. Michigan defeated the Beavers 27-9 at the Joe Wells Classic in Ann Arbor last season, and placed ninth at the NCAA Championships.
OSU also hosts Stanford (Jan. 28), Arizona State (Feb. 5) and Pac-12 rivals Cal Poly (Feb. 10) and CSU-Bakersfield (Feb. 11). The Stanford and ASU duals will be televised by the Pac-12 Network.
The Pac-12 Championships are Feb. 26 at Stanford. The NCAA Championships are March 16-18 at St. Louis.
The Beavers open the dual-meet season on Nov. 12 with matches against Duke and host Appalachian State at Boone, N.C. They also travel to Utah Valley State, Northern Colorado, Wyoming, Rutgers, Drexel, Boise State and Oklahoma.
OSU will compete in the annual Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational on Dec. 2-3, and at the Midlands Tournament at Northwestern University on Dec. 29-30. They are two of the premier in-season tournaments in the country.
"This schedule will test us and prepare us for the Pac-12 and NCAA tournaments," OSU coach Jim Zalesky said. "We are bringing quality opponents to Corvallis, in Michigan and our Pac-12 opponents.
"We will also face outstanding teams on the road," in the return half of home-and home scheduling series that brought Rutgers, Wyoming, Utah Valley and Northern Colorado to Corvallis last season.
The annual Orange & Black Intrasquad scrimmage is Nov. 3. OSU opens the regular season at the Mike Clock Open at Pacific University in Forest Grove on Nov. 6.
The Beavers are the five-time defending Pacific-12 Conference champions. They return nine starters from the 2015-16 club, which went 11-6 in duals, 3-2 in the Pac-12, and placed 21st at the NCAA Championships with 22 points.
