Herman Clark Named Hall of Fame Finalist

HONOLULU, Hawai'i – Former Oregon State football great Herman "Buddy" Clark is among 18 finalists on the ballot for induction into the Polynesian Football Hall of Fame Class of 2017 as announced by the Polynesian Football Hall of Fame today.

Clark, an offensive lineman from Honolulu who graduated from Punahou High School, lettered at OSU from 1949-51 under coach Kip Taylor. He was an All-Pacific Coast Conference selection in 1951, played in the East-West Shrine Game, and then was drafted in the fourth round of the NFL Draft by the Chicago Bears in 1952.

He was an All-Pro guard in 1955 and 1956 and was named to the NFL's Half-Century team. He was elected to the OSU Athletics Hall of Fame in 1990 and to the Hawai'i Sports Hall of Fame in 1998.

The list of finalists includes 15 players and three coaches/contributors.

The finalists were selected from a field of over 200 nominees by the Polynesian Football Hall of Fame Selection Committeee composed of past head coaches Dick Tomey, LaVell Edwards, Ron McBride and Dick Vermeil, ESPN SportsCenter anchor Neil Everett, NFL player personnel expert Gil Brandt, past NFLPA president and Inaugural Inductee Kevin Mawae and Hawai'i sportscaster Robert Kekaula.

Former Beaver great offensive lineman Rockne Freitas was inducted into the Polynesian Hall of Fame last year.
