The Beavers hit the court for approximately two hours on Tuesday
CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Oregon State volleyball team hit the floor for the first time on Tuesday in preparation for the 2016 season, which starts August 26 when the Beavers take on Utah State and Portland.
Â
The Beavers, under first-year head coach Mark Barnard, worked out for approximately two hours at the Dixon Recreation Center on the Oregon State campus. Gill Coliseum was not available as the installation of a state-of-the-art Taraflex floor, by Gerflor USA, was underway. Oregon State will be the second team in the Pac-12 Conference to utilize the playing surface.
Â
The surface is one of many new enhancements at Gill Coliseum, which will also include a state-of-the-art sound system, new seats in the lower bowl and an upgrade to restrooms on the first level.
Â
Barnard, who is in his 12th season at Oregon State after serving as an associate head coach an assistant coach, will have 12 letterwinners returning from the 2015 team. That includes five seniors – Jessi Seumalo, Katelyn Driscoll, Lila Toner, Emilie Wilmes and Rachel Buehner.
Â
The Beavers, meanwhile, welcome seven newcomers to the program, with five starting their collegiate careers. Delaney Taylor, meanwhile, joins the program as a transfer from Middle Tennessee after one season, while junior Sam Rouleau played her first two seasons at Linn-Benton Community College.
Â
Beaver Nation's first opportunity to see the team in action will be August 19 at Gill Coliseum. The team will play in the Orange & Black Scrimmage, a free event that starts at 7 p.m. PT.
Â
Oregon State opens the 2016 season when hosting the Ultra Ankle Challenge at Gill Coliseum. The Beavers open August 26 with a match against Utah State at 10 a.m. OSU will also play Portland that night at 7 p.m. The tournament ends when the Beavers face Seattle at 7 p.m. on August 27.
