Beavs in Bend Day One
August 05, 2016 | Football
Its looks anything but fall from Bend's Summit High School, but, in the world of college football it's day one of "fall camp" from an elevation of 3,623 feet. For comparison purposes, the Tommy Prothro Football Complex back on the campus of Oregon State University checks in at 235 feet.
Even with that elevation change, OSU's medical staff does not anticipate anything out of the usual with regards to the student-athletes, other than some increased calorie intake by a handful of Beavers and a heightened awareness on hydration.
Here we go with the 2016 college football season and year two of head coach Gary Andersen's program. The first five days are NCAA mandated acclimatization periods with the team in full pads for the first time Tuesday.
Check the brief get to know the seniors below – today it is Cajun native cornerback Treston Decoud.
Fans are invited to attend Saturday's drills at Summit High School, starting at 10 a.m. to approximately 1 p.m.
Fans are also invited to join fellow Beaver Nation members for an informal gathering at the Deschutes Brewery located at 1044 NW Bond Street Friday, August 5 from 5-8 p.m. OSU's Ideation Team will present a virtual reality experience of the ongoing $42 million renovation of the Valley Football Center.
Family Fun Day returns to the preseason schedule Friday, August 12, beginning at 5 p.m. with the first scrimmage of August's camp. The scrimmage will end at approximately 7 p.m., followed by an autograph session and the movie "Remember The Titans," sponsored by Paventy and Brown Orthodontics. Family Fun Day is free of charge and located at Reser Stadium.
In addition, Pac-12 Network will be in Reser Stadium on the 12th for its annual Training Camp visit to OSU. The show will air that night with a special viewing party at Sky High Brewing in downtown Corvallis, from 8-10 p.m., with Network personalities Mike Yam and Yogi Roth. There will be giveaway items and the opportunity to win Beaver football tickets.
The Beavers will hold their final public access scrimmage Thursday, August 18 at 10:30 a.m. at Reser Stadium.
Oregon State opens the season Thursday, September 1 at Minnesota at 6 p.m. PDT in a game that will be televised by the Big Ten Network. The Beavers seven-game home schedule starts Saturday, September 17 vs. Idaho State at 2 p.m. on the Pac-12 Network.

Meet Treston Decoud
Treston was born in Covington, La. where he attended Lakeshore High School where he was a standout sprinter and wide receiver. He has had a long journey to Corvallis and OSU that includes stints at Chadron State in Nebraska and NW Mississippi Junior College. Since he has been on the OSU campus you will learn that he is poised to complete the final steps for his bachelor's degree in liberal studies and make his last season of college football memorable.
Decoud made 50 tackles last season, including a career-high nine at Oregon.
Favorite OSU Class: "Beatles" I like music and the Beatles were in an era when my parents grew up – I think it is kind of interesting to listen to that type of music.
Why a liberal studies major? I have many interests and this major gives me options. Ultimately I want to work with kids as a teacher and football coach."
Biggest thing football has taught you? "Life lessons. How to become a man and how to be responsible."
Coach Cory Hall's biggest influence? "He has played at all levels of football; his experience is important to me. He has taught me how to prepare on the field, but also how to prepare for life after football."
What has OSU and Corvallis meant to you? "I love Corvallis and OSU; there is no drama, no crime and it's a laid back community which fits my personality. It's a beautiful town – it's 'the best college town in the Pac-12.'"
What was it like to go through graduation commencement in June? "It was a big accomplishment; something I know my family is very proud of, but I'm proud of myself also. I'm officially done with my degree requirements in December."
