Team Captains Selected

On the eve of the official start of the 2016 season, members of the Oregon State football team voted Victor Bolden Jr., Devin Chappell, Darell Garretson, Sean Harlow, Caleb Saulo and Dustin Stanton team captains.
Bolden enters his final season with 25 career starts as a receiver. The public health major from Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., has accounted for 3,619 all-purpose yards and nine touchdowns.Â
"This is a big responsibility and I have to hold myself accountable," Bolden Jr. said. "I'm excited to get on the field and show Beaver Nation how much we have improved."
Chappell is an economics major from Springfield, Ore. The former walk-on began his college career at Western Oregon before transferring to OSU prior to the 2014 season. He started eight games last year at safety in his first eligible season at OSU making 43 tackles.
"It's quite an honor that my teammates would think that I'm worthy to be a team captain," Chappell said. "I'm excited to get on the field and be the best leader I can be."
Garretson is the lone non-senior to be voted a captain. The junior from Chandler, Ariz., is the starting quarterback for the upcoming season after redshirting last year. The sociology major passed for 2,586 yards and 18 touchdowns at Utah State during the 2013 and '14 seasons.
"I'm honored that my teammates would have this kind of trust in me," Garretson said. "I can't thank my teammates enough for this respect."
Harlow is a veteran offensive tackle from San Clemente, Calif., who possesses a team-high 28 starts. He will graduate in December with a bachelor's degree in human development and family sciences.
"This is a huge honor that my teammates have this much respect and trust in me," Harlow said.Â
Saulo is one of the most experienced players on the defensive side of the ball, having 11 starts at linebacker. The Kent, Wash., native has 107 career tackles. He will graduate in sociology in December.
"My goal is to do all I can to lead this team to a successful year," Saulo said. "I'm going to be more vocal and do whatever I can for this team to have a great season."
Stanton, from Marysville, Wash., has 18 career starts at offensive tackle and is on track to graduate in December with a bachelor's degree in business administration.Â
"There is no better group of guys I would rather lead than my current teammates," Stanton said. "I'm ready to get on the field, get to work and see what we can do."
The Beavers begin practice Friday in Bend. The first seven workouts will be at Summit High School with Saturday's practice open to the public from 10:15 a.m. to 1 p.m. Family Fun Day coincides with the first day of practice in Corvallis, beginning at 5 p.m. Friday, August. 12.Â
Oregon State opens the season Thursday, September 1 at Minnesota at 6 p.m. PDT in a game that will be televised by the Big Ten Network. The Beavers' seven-game home schedule starts Saturday, September 17 vs. Idaho State at 2 p.m. on the Pac-12 Network.Â
