Beavers Sweep Seattle To Win Tournament

OSU won a total of eight sets over the weekend to claim the tiebreaker
CORVALLIS, Ore. – Lanesha Reagan, Kory Cheshire and Mary-Kate Marshall all tallied double-digit kills to lead the Oregon State volleyball team to a sweep of Seattle Saturday night at Gill Coliseum. With the victory, the Beavers claimed the title of the Ultra Ankle Challenge.

Set scores were 25-19, 25-15 and 25-10.

The Beavers and Redhawks both finished with 2-1 records at the tournament. Oregon State, however, won the tiebreaker by winning a total of eight sets over the two days, compared to Seattle's six.

The match was decidedly all Oregon State, with the Beavers hitting an impressive .404 to Seattle's .187 clip. Oregon State finished with 52 kills to the Redhawks' 25, was credited with 45 assist to 25 for Seattle, and held the advantage in blocks, seven to six.

Seattle held the lead just once, during the second set, and the match went into a tie score six times. OSU led all of set three, which the Beavers won 25-10. In that set, Oregon State hit an astounding .667 – committing just one attacking error over 24 attempts while finishing with 17 kills.

Marshall was named the Ultra Ankle Challenge Most Valuable Player, as voted on by each of the four coaches at the tournament. She finished with 13 kills Saturday night, and tallied 52 over the three matches.

The junior now needs just one kill to become the 15th player in school history with 1,000 for a career.

She was accompanied on the honors list by Lanesha Reagan. The redshirt sophomore finished with a team-leading 14 kills Saturday night and ended the weekend with 57 kills. Against Seattle, she hit .310 and had five digs.

Cheshire, meanwhile, set a career-high with 11 kills, doing so on just 18 attempts for a .556 hitting mark. She added two service aces, three digs and four blocks to her line.

The Beavers are back in action next weekend when they take on Syracuse and Nebraska in Lincoln, Neb. OSU opens with Syracuse on Friday at 1:30 p.m. PT, before wrapping up the trip by taking on host Nebraska in a match that starts at 12:30 p.m. PT on Saturday.
