Oregon State Wins Season Opener

The Beavers hit .233 in the season opener
CORVALLIS, Ore. – Lanesha Reagan set a career-high with 25 kills and Mary-Kate Marshall inched her way closer to 1,000 for a career with 19 as the Oregon State volleyball team defeated Utah State in five sets to open the 2016 season Friday at Gill Coliseum.

Set scores were 21-25, 25-23, 25-23, 11-25 and 15-11.

Reagan paced the Beavers with 62 attacks in the morning match, and hit .242 to lead the way for OSU, which tallied a .233 mark as a team. She finished with a double double, also registering 10 digs.

Marshall, meanwhile, came into the match needing 53 kills to become the 15th player in school history with 1,000 or more. She recorded her 19 kills on 40 attacks – a .450 percentage – adding five digs and a service ace to her line.

Lila Toner tallied 11 kills, and McKenna Hollingsworth added two with 54 assists and eight digs. Toner also registered 13 digs for the double double.

The Beavers finished with 12 blocks to Utah State's seven. Kory Cheshire and Serena Bruin, who made her collegiate debut, tied for the team lead with five apiece.

Also making their D1 debuts Friday was Merritt Stewart, Shalom Ifeanyi and Sam Rouleau.

Oregon State continues play at the Ultra Ankle Challenge Friday night against Portland. First serve is set for 7 p.m. PT.
