Oregon State middle blocker Serena Bruin is a freshman who hails from Commerce City, Colo.
Do you have a nickname? If so, what is it and who gave it to you? And why did they give it to you?
"People call me Rena. My parents gave it to because Serena is too long to say sometimes."

What do you like most about playing volleyball?
"I love being on the court with my team after winning a long rally with a spectacular play like a block or a kill and beinging able to cheer and feed off of and give energy to my teammates to win a game."

If you could change one thing about volleyball, what would that be and why?
"Nothing. I think volleyball is perfect the way it is."

At what age did you know you wanted to play volleyball in college? And what made you realize that?
"I was 14 and was good for my age; I wanted to compete at one of the higher levels in volleyball."

What does your uniform number mean to you?
"Twenty four is the day if my birthday and if you divide it by two it's my sister's birthday month."

 If you weren't playing volleyball, what sport would you play and why?
"I would be playing basketball because it was my first sport and I was pretty good at it."

Who has had the biggest influence on your volleyball career?
"My first club coach, Endy. He was the first one to see potential in me when I first started playing volleyball and he constantly encouraged me to become a better player every time I stepped on the court. He showed me that you can be aggressive through the net both offensively and defensively."

What is the last movie you saw?
"The Proposal with Sandra Bullock."

What actress would play you in a movie? Why?
"Zendaya would play me in a movie because she a great dancer and singer … like me."

If you could play in any band, or take over for any singer, who would that be and why?
"I would take over for Beyonce because I know almost all of her songs by heart and she is my favorite singer."

What is the best part about living in Corvallis and the state of Oregon?
"I love the college town feel of Corvallis. Oregon is beautiful all year round and has a cold water beach. What more could I ask for?"
What is your personal goal for the 2016 season?
"Get to see the court my freshman year."

What is your team goal for the 2016 season?
"Make it to postseason."

What was your first thought when being recruited by Oregon State?
"What impact could I have here?"

 What is your major? And what led you to choose it?
"Kinesiology. I chose Kinesiology because I want to remain in the sports world even after my volleyball career is over. I enjoy being around athletes that share or shared the same goals and dreams that I do. I also find injuries interesting and how to fix them."

After your playing career is over, what profession do you want to go into? Why?
"I want to become an athletic trainer because I have suffered from and witnessed a fair share of injuries and helping others get back to their healthy self is what I enjoy most."

What match do you look back to and remember fondly through your entire volleyball career?
"It was my senior year and my last high school rival game and we beat them in five sets on their court after they beat my school two years in a row on our court. This particular match was special because I had 15 blocks and four kills. That was a career high for most blocks. Plus it was Senior Night so that made it extra special."

What makes you the most excited, day in and day out, about being an Oregon State student-athlete?
"Getting to interact with the different types of people every day, from trainers to coaches, teammates and other student-athletes, knowing that we are all striving toward the same goal to represent the college we love and give back to the people around us and the ones who helped get us here."

Community service ... list some events you have done. What has driven you to do them?
"I volunteer coach for rec league volleyball and basketball because I love seeing kids fall in love with the sport and express themselves in a positive manner. It gives you a chance to see people in one of their happier moments and remind you of where your love the game all started."
What do you want Oregon State fans to know most about you?
"If I could peanut butter on everything and eat frozen yogurt every day I probably would."
