Finley won conference titles in 1961 and 1962
Oregon State University Hall of Fame wrestler Ron Finley passed away Monday. He was 75.
Finley, who entered the Oregon State Hall of Fame in 1991, was a conference champion at 137 pounds in 1961 and 1962. He finished second at the 1961 NCAA Tournament, then took the 1963 Greco-Roman National title and later captured a gold medal at the Pan American Games.
A native of Newberg, Ore., he was a member of the 1964 Olympic Team, placing fourth in the Greco-Roman Division at 138.75 pounds.
He is also a member of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame and the State of Oregon Sports Hall of Fame.
Said OSU associate head coach Kevin Roberts, who wrestled for Finley at Oregon: "He was a great guy to be able to wrestle for. When I think about Fin, I think about the way he treated people, the humility he had. He was just a very good person and it was a great experience to be in his program."
