Olin Hannum hired as athletic bands director

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Olin Hannum, director of the California Aggie Marching Band (CAMB) at the University of California, Davis, has been hired as director of athletic bands and associate director of bands at Oregon State University. He joins the program during its marquee 125^th anniversary year as only the seventh director in the history of the OSU Marching Band.

Hannum fills the vacancy left by Dana Biggs, who has been appointed a position with the marching band at Virginia Tech.

During his five years at UC Davis, Hannum increased the membership of the marching band from 150 to a record 322 participants. The ensemble was featured at its first National Football League game and developed a state-wide performance presence. In addition to leading the CAMB, he directed the University Campus Band, a symphonic style concert ensemble.

"We are honored to have Olin with us as we celebrate our 125^th year as a band program. New Marching Band Director, new uniforms, same great tradition," said OSU Director of Bands Christopher Chapman.

Prior to his appointment at UC Davis, Hannum was a graduate assistant with the Oregon State University athletic and symphonic band program, and completed a Master of Arts in Teaching degree at OSU in 2011. He also holds a bachelor's degree in horn performance from UC Davis and has notably appeared with the Berkeley Symphony Orchestra and the San Francisco Wind Ensemble.
