Sharon Rissmiller Named Interim Asst. Coach
July 21, 2016 | Women's Basketball
Oregon State women's basketball head coach Scott Rueck has named Sharon Rissmiller interim assistant coach. Rissmiller temporarily fills the void of the departure of former assistant coach Mandy Close and will remain in the position until a permanent coach is named.Â
Rissmiller spent the 2015-16 season, her first at OSU, as the Beavers' director of operations assisting a team that advanced to their first ever Final Four last April, finished No. 2 in the country and posted a gaudy 32-5 record.
OSU also won the Pac-12 Conference title for the second year in a row and captured the program's first ever Pac-12 Conference Tournament championship.Â
"Sharon is uniquely qualified to fill this position on our staff," Rueck said. "She has experience recruiting, coaching and evaluating talent which is vital during our transition period within our coaching staff."
Rissmiller spent seven years as the head coach of Pacific (Ore.), leading the team to back-to-back winning seasons in 2012-13 and 2013-14. The University of Portland graduate also led the program to one of the best seasons in school history in 2008-09.
The native of Tigard, Ore., also has coaching experience at Tacoma Community College, Clark Community College and Sunset High School in Beaverton, Ore. She was a standout basketball student-athlete at the University of Portland, earning West Coast Conference First Team accolades as a senior.
The Beavers begin defense of their back-to-back league titles when they return to the court in October. The complete  2016-17 schedule will be announced in the near future.
