Five Beavers ranked by Amateur Wrestling News

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Five members of the Oregon State wrestling team earned preseason Top-20 rankings from the Amateur Wrestling News website on Tuesday.
Junior All-American heavyweight Amarveer Dhesi, who took fifth place at the 2016 NCAA Championships with a 5-2 record, earned the highest ranking, No. 4. Dhesi was 32-5 last season, was the Pacific-12 Conference Wrestler of the Year and earned the Most Outstanding Wrestler award at the Pac-12 tournament while winning his weight class.
Dhesi, who is competing in the World University Championships in Corum, Turkey, this week, was also No. 4 in preseason rankings from InterMat, The Open Mat and WIN.
Junior 125-pounder Ronnie Bresser (31-9) was ranked No. 6. He placed second at the Pac-12 tournament and was 3-2 at NCAAs after advancing for the second year in a row. He was ranked No. 5 by InterMat, No. 7 by The Open Mat and No. 9 by WIN.
Redshirt senior 133-pounder Joey Palmer (26-12) was ranked No. 12. Palmer was second at the Pac-12 championships and then went 2-2 with two one-point losses in his second NCAA appearance. He was No. 8 by The Open Mat, No. 10 by WIN, and No. 12 by InterMat.
Redshirt sophomore 184-pounder Corey Griego (24-12) was ranked 17th. He also took second at Pac-12s and went 1-2 at NCAAs in his first season of varsity competition. He was ranked No. 14 by InterMat and No. 16 by WIN and The Open Mat.
Redshirt junior 197-pounder Cody Crawford (19-14) was ranked No. 11. He took third at Pac-12s but did not learn at at-large NCAA berth. He was Pac-12 champion and an NCAA qualifier in 2015 as a redshirt freshman. He was ranked No. 18 by InterMat and No. 20 by The Open Mat.
Redshirt senior 149-pounder Joey Delgado was not ranked; he was No. 18 in the TOM rankings. He took third at Pac-12s and went 1-2 in his second NCAA appearance.
The Beavers open the season on Nov. 3 with the annual Orange & Black Intrasquad meet at Gill Coliseum. Their first regular-season competition is the Nov. 6 Mike Clock Open at Pacific University in Forest Grove.
They open the dual-meet season on Nov. 12 with matches against Duke and host Appalachian State at Boone, N.C. Their home opener is Nov. 20 against Michigan; they begin Pacific-12 Conference action against Stanford on Jan. 30, 2017, also at Gill Coliseum.
The Beavers are five-time defending Pac-12 champions and Jim Zalesky was captured the last five Coach of the Year awards. This year's Pac-12 Championships are Feb. 26, at Stanford. The NCAA Championships are March 16-18 at St. Louis.
