Beavers In Fourth At Competitive Pac-12 Preview

KONA, Hawai'i – The Oregon State women's golf team got off to a great start at the Pac-12 Preview on Monday and sits in fourth place in a field that includes seven nationally-ranked teams.

The Beavers shot a 5-over 297 in the opening round and a 16-over 308 in the afternoon to finish the day with a 21-over 605 at the par-73, 6,372-yard Nanea Golf Club.

No. 3 Stanford leads the two-day, 54-hole tournament with an 8-over 592, while No. 20 Arizona State and No. 30 Arizona are tied for second with a 10-over 594.

Oregon State is ahead of four ranked teams with 18 holes to play -- No. 46 Oregon (sixth, 26-over 610), No. 26 California and No. 1 UCLA (tied for seventh, 28-over 612) and No. 45 Colorado (ninth, 31-over 615).

The final round begins at 10:30 a.m. PT on Tuesday and live scoring is available at golfstat.com.

Junior Susie Cavanagh, who is in her first year at Oregon State after transferring from UConn, led the Beavers with an even-par 72-74--146 to put her in a tie for sixth place. The 1-under 72 is the second sub-par round of her Oregon State career. She shot a 3-under 69 at the Rose City Collegiate that helped OSU win the team title.

Junior Haley Nist opened the tourney with a 4-over 77 but rallied after the lunch break to shoot an even-par 73 that moved her 17 spots up the leaderboard into a tie for 16th place with a 4-over 150.

Senior Elyse Smidinger is tied for 29th place with an 8-over 75-79--154, sophomore Olivia Benzin is tied for 35th with a 10-over 74-82--156 and junior Hannah Swanson is tied for 47th with a 13-over 76-83--159.

Three players are tied for the individual lead with a 3-under 143 -- Kathleen Scavo of Oregon, Gigi Stoll of Arizona and Robynn Ree of USC.
