Beavers Fall to Wildcats on Senior Day

CORVALLIS, Ore. — The Oregon State women's soccer team fell to the Arizona Wildcats Sunday afternoon at Paul Lorenz Field, 3-0. It was the final home match for seniors Greta Espinoza, Annie Govig, Sabrina Santarossa, McKenzie Redberg and Helene Haavik.

Junior Bella Geist saw 17 shots during the match and tallied three saves, while the Beavers recorded seven shots, three of them on frame. Freshman Nicole Nickerson led the Beavers with a pair of shots on goal and junior Kayla Latham also added a shot on frame. The Wildcats held an advantage in the corner kick game with seven to the Beavers three.

Arizona (6-9-1, 1-8 Pac-12) fired five shots in the first half, one of which found the back of the net. The Wildcats took a corner kick and after a blocked shot, Hannah Stevens punched it in to give Arizona the lead just four minutes in.

Oregon State (7-8-2, 2-6 Pac-12) tallied four shots in the half, but failed to find the back of the net and trailed, 1-0 at the half.

After the break, the Wildcats added to their lead in the 55th minute after Gabi Stoian made a move and put the ball off the left post to score.

Arizona struck again in the 72nd minute after a flip throw made its way into the box and Hannah Stevens headed it home for her second goal of the match.

Junior Emma Jones fired a pair of shots down the stretch, but neither could find the mark.

The Beavers will finish the season on the road, traveling to Washington State on Thursday, before playing Washington on Sunday. Oregon State will close the season at Oregon for the Civil War game on Friday, November 4.
