Beavers Push No. 20 Utah To Five Sets
October 22, 2016 | Women's Volleyball
Lanesha Reagan and Sam Rouleau each tallied double doubles
SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Lanesha Reagan and Sam Rouleau each posted double doubles as the Oregon State volleyball team pushed 20th-ranked Utah to five sets Saturday night, losing a seesaw battle at the Huntsman Center.
Â
Set scores were 15-25, 25-23, 25-21, 25-27 and 9-15.
Â
Reagan posted 12 kills – second to Mary-Kate Marshall's 15 – with 11 digs. It's her second consecutive weekend with a double double after doing so against USC, and her team-leading seventh of the season.
Â
Rouleau, meanwhile, picked up her second double double in as many night as the Beavers played a rare back-to-back schedule in Pac-12 Conference play. The junior transfer recorded 23 assists and 10 digs against the Utes.
Â
Oregon State saw four players finish in double figures, with Kory Cheshire (11) and Lila Toner (10) joining Marshall and Reagan. Marshall had four digs and two blocks, while Cheshire posted four digs and four blocks. Toner tied Serena Bruin for the team lead with five blocks, pitching in with four digs as well.
Â
The match, which was the Beavers' first to go five sets since Sept. 10, saw Oregon State take a 2-1 lead. The Utes claimed a first set that saw the lead change hands just once. But the Beavers were resilient, claiming set two. Utah never held the lead in set two and the Beavers won it after hitting .212 to the Utes' .108.
Â
Set three also went to the Beavers, albeit without as much ease. Oregon State hit .389 during the frame, and held off Utah after the lead was tied seven times.
Â
Three lead changes were seen in set four, and unfortunately, the Utes held it last in their 27-25 victory. OSU hit .267 during the frame, with Utah posting a .372 mark.
Â
The match was fairly even statistically, with both teams recording nine blocks and Utah barely out-serving Oregon State, 8-to-7. The Utes also recorded 66 digs to 57 for the Beavers.
Â
Kayla Ellis led the Beavers with 16 digs, while McKenna Hollingsworth posted an OSU-best 26 assists. Hollingsworth was just shy of back-to-back doubles, finishing with seven digs.
Â
Oregon State returns to action Friday night when hosting Arizona State at 7 p.m. PT. Tickets remain and can be purchased by visiting BeaverTickets.com or calling 1-800-GOBEAVS.
