October 19, 2016 | Women's Cross Country, Women's Track & Field
CORVALLIS, Ore. – The annual High Performance Meet and the Pacific-12 Conference Multi-Events Championships highlight the 2017 schedule for the Oregon State track & field team.
The High Performance Meet is scheduled for April 28-29, 2017, at the Whyte Track & Field Center. The distance, pole vault and hammer events will be contested on Friday, April 28; all other events will be held on Saturday, April 29.
The High Performance Meet is one of the top competitions in the Northwest, attracting teams from all across the United States, and Olympians. Also, the hammer throw will be held on site for the first time.
The Pac-12 pentathlon and heptathlon championships will be held on Saturday, May 6, and Sunday, May 7. An OSU track/cross country alumni gathering will be held the night of May 6 following the opening day of competition.
The Beavers are tentatively scheduled to open the indoor season on Jan. 27-28 at the Washington Invitational at the Dempsey Indoor Center in Seattle. The Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships are Feb. 24-25, also at the Dempsey Indoor Center.
They open the outdoor campaign on March 17-18 at the Lewis & Clark Invitational in Portland. The Pac-12 Championships are May 12-13 at Hayward Field in Eugene; the NCAA West Regional is May 25-27 in Austin, Texas, followed by the June 7-10 NCAA Championships, also at Hayward Field.
Significant improvements will be made to the Whyte Track & Field Center for the upcoming season.
Additions include a video scoreboard; the hammer throw area; broadcast infrastructure and warm-up space on the back stretch, including a third pole vault runway (east and west) for competitions and practices; a third javelin runway to allow throwing into grass area of the hammer for practices and competitions; additional lane lines and starting lines for additional practices and prep for warmups off the straightway, and a distance plaza area.
The upgrades to allow hosting of the multi-events competition are part of Phase II of the donor-funded project to upgrade the Whyte Track & Field Center. The additional aspects of Phase II of a three-phase enhancement plan are the installation of grandstands, a press box, restrooms, concessions and other amenities. They will be completed as donations are secured.
Phase I was completed for the 2014 season and included an International Association of Athletics Federation-certified Olympic-caliber polyurethane surface; a FieldTurf infield; a nine-lane track; high jump aprons; long jump, triple jump, pole vault and javelin runways; shot put throw sectors, and dual discus rings.
