OSU Swimming Hosts Stanford Friday

CORVALLIS, Ore. — The Oregon State swim team will stay in Corvallis this week and face Stanford this Friday in a Pac-12 meet starting at 2 p.m., at the Osborn Aquatic Center.

"Every week the team is getting better and we are learning from every race," said head coach Jennifer Buffin. The expectation this season is to embrace the process and to evaluate week to week and seeing how we can improve our skills through training and race strategies."

Oregon State opened its Pac-12 Conference schedule last week, suffering a loss to California in its home opener, 163-88. The Beavers placed second in the majority of the events, including standout freshman, Felicia Anderson who continued her success recording a career-best in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 56.98 to place third. Anderson later placed well in the 200-yard backstroke and set a new high with a time of 2:04.22 on her way to a second-place finish.

The Stanford swimming team will begin its 2016-17 campaign this Friday after finishing a perfect 7-0 in dual meets and second at the NCAA Championships a season ago. Stanford returns seven of its 10 All-Americans from last season, including five of six individual national champions. In addition, Olympians Simone Manuel and Kassidy Cook return to the team. Stanford added one of the top-ranked recruiting class, which includes standout Olympian, Katie Ledecky.

"Stanford is a great program and is coming off an incredible Olympic year," continued Buffin. "This is a great opportunity for our program to be create an environment that is best for us to be successful. Last week we held our first home meet and the environment was competitive and fun. I expect we are going to have a larger community turnout this week, which will make it exciting for both teams."

The Beavers will go head-to-head with the Cardinal for the first time since the 2014-15 season, when Stanford recorded a 134-117 victory in Stanford, California. OSU is 0-4 against the Cardinal, suffering losses in 2014, '13, '09 and '07.

Oregon State will hit the road next weekend as it heads to Westwood, California for the annual Pink Meet where the Beavers will face UCLA, UC-Santa Barbra and San Diego.
