Beavers Finish Third At Pat Lesser-Harbottle
October 11, 2016 | Women's Golf
TACOMA, Wash. – The Oregon State women's golf team continued its strong fall season with a third-place finish at the 15-team Pat Lesser-Harbottle Invitational on Tuesday.
Â
The Beavers shot a 23-over 292-300-295--887 at the par-72, 6,086-yard Tacoma Country and Golf Club to finish third at the two-day, 54-hole tournament.
Â
Washington won the team title with a 16-over 291-298-291--880 and BYU rallied in the final round to finish second with a 19-over 306-291-286--883.
Â
"It was a good week of golf for the team on a difficult course," Oregon State head coach Dawn Shockley said. "We were steady all three rounds and happy with the finish. Washington and BYU played great golf today.
Â
"It was solid golf all week by Olivia and Haley. This is Olivia's third consecutive top 10 and the hard work she puts in is paying off."
Â
Oregon State has competed in three tournaments this fall and has posted a top-5 finish in all of them – fourth at the Ptarmigan Ram Classic, first at the Rose City Collegiate and third at the Pat Lesser-Harbottle Invitational.
Â
Sophomore Olivia Benzin recorded a top-10 finish for the third time this fall, finishing in a career-best tie for fourth place with an even-par 70-73-73--216. She has led the Beavers in every tourney this season, placing 10th at the Ptarmigan Ram Classic and tied for fifth at the Rose City Collegiate.
Â
Benzin has already fired three sub-par rounds this season after carding one last year as a freshman.
Â
Junior Haley Nist was as consistent as can be, carding a 1-over 73 all three rounds to finish in a tie for sixth place with a 3-over 219. It's her fourth career top-10 finish, after finishing in a tie for ninth at the Oregon State Invitational as a freshman, tied for third at the Rose City Collegiate last fall and tied for sixth at the Bay Area Collegiate last spring.
Â
Freshman Nicole Schroeder finished in a tie for 24th place with an 11-over 73-76-78--227, junior Susie Cavanagh was a stroke back with a 12-over 76-79-73--228 for a tie for 27th and junior Hannah Swanson finished 66th with a 22-over 84-78-76--238.
Â
Julianne Alvarez of Washington claimed medalist honors with a 3-under 71-73-69--213.
Â
The Beavers have two weeks off before their final tournament of the fall season, the Pac-12 Preview, which is scheduled for Monday, Oct. 24 and Tuesday, Oct. 25 in Kona, Hawai'i.
