Mel Easley earned first team All-American honors as a senior following a standout career for the Beavers. Easley was a member of the famed 1967 Giant Killers football team that defeated No. 1 ranked USC, No. 2 Purdue and then tied the new No. 2 team UCLA. He was named Oregon State’s Most Improved Player in 1969 and in the same year was selected to the All-Pac-8 Conference Team. In addition, he played in the College All-Star and East-West Shrine Games. The defensive back was a sixth round 1970 NFL Draft selection of the New Orleans Saints and later played two seasons in the Canadian Football League.
